Passive Tree

Description

The passive tree is where your character stops being a vocation and starts being a build. You earn points steadily as you level and spend them across five arcs - Martial, Caster, Defense, Fortune and Support - reaching outward from the centre. Most of what you pass through is small and additive; a few nodes change the rules you play by.

Earning Points

You gain your first point at level 20 and another every 20 levels after that. Points are never lost and never expire - a higher level is simply a wider tree.

What Is On The Tree

Minor nodes
Small, straightforward increases. These are the bulk of the tree and the connective tissue between everything else.

Notables
Stronger nodes that change a behaviour rather than a number - converting your damage type, for instance.

Spice nodes
A node with a choice attached. You pick one option from a short list, and you can re-pick later for a small fee without respeccing anything else.

Rites
One per arc, and the closest thing the tree has to an identity. Rite of Endurance lengthens your ability durations; Discipline sharpens your vocation passive; Momentum brings stacking mechanics to their payoff sooner; Affliction makes your slows and stuns last; Conjuration gives you an extra rune charge.

Keystones
Unlocked at level 200, and the reason builds differ. Every keystone pairs a large bonus with a real cost - Relentless Tempo buys attack speed with increased damage taken, Brutal Force buys attack power with maximum health, Mirrorplate turns you into a reflector and gives up critical hits entirely. Take one because you want what it changes, not because the bonus is big.

Reading The Tree

A node's frame tells you what kind it is - steel for minor nodes, bronze with leaves for notables, gold with a sunburst for keystones - and the symbol inside tells you what it gives, using the same symbols as the Stats window: a sword for weapon damage, a heart for health, a shield for damage reduction, and so on. Frames glow once you own them, and the nodes you can take right now carry a thin gold ring. Hover a node to light up its connections and the nodes it would open.

Planning A Path

Press Plan to queue nodes without spending anything. Click nodes to add them in order and click a queued node to drop it; the plan panel shows what the path costs and everything it adds together. When it looks right, Allocate path spends it all at once - or nothing at all, if the path is no longer valid. The mouse wheel zooms toward whatever you point at.

Changing Your Mind

A full respec costs Tower Coins, and the price doubles each time you use it before settling at a ceiling - so experimenting early is cheap and rebuilding constantly is not. Re-picking a single spice option is a small flat fee and does not count as a respec.

Note

The passive tree replaces the old Talents system. If you remember choosing a single talent at level 200, that choice is now the keystone at the end of an arc.
