Scrap System

Scrap System

Description

The scrap system provides a way to recycle unwanted equipment into a special currency that can be spent on randomized equipment boxes. This system encourages exploration and gives value to items you no longer need.

How to Scrap Items

Right-click any equippable item in your inventory and select 'Scrap' to dismantle it for scrap currency. For loot you never want in the first place, open Quick Settings (Alt+O) and set up the Scrap Filter.

The Scrap Filter

The filter is a keep-list: you describe the loot you want, and everything else you pick up is turned into scrap for you. Each keep card is one sentence - keep these item pieces, at this rarity and above, with these modifiers. A card with no modifiers keeps every piece it covers; a card with several keeps an item that matches any one of them. Loot that matches no card is scrapped.

Add a card, tick the item pieces your build actually uses, pick the lowest rarity worth keeping, and add the modifiers you care about. One card is enough for most climbers - add more when different slots want different modifiers. Switch the filter on at the top once your cards are ready; until then nothing is scrapped and your cards are simply saved.

The filter never touches gear you have worn. Once an item has been equipped it is permanently exempt, so moving your equipment into a bag to upgrade it is safe. Upgraded items and Legendary gear are exempt too - both are manual-only. The filter also only ever fires on items you have just picked up - it never acts on things already sitting in your backpack, so turning it on will not destroy what you are carrying.

To scrap something the filter protects, right-click it and scrap it manually. Epic, Legendary and upgraded pieces ask you to confirm first: the prompt names the item, its upgrade level, and exactly what you get back.

The Tinkerer

Located on Floor 0 (Threshold) on the second floor of the depot, and Floor 5 (Haven) north of the depot. The Tinkerer sells randomized equipment boxes that scale with your progression.

Equipment Box Types

Common Box
Cost: 3 scrap. No requirements. Random common item that can drop on floors before floor 4, scaling up to your current maximum floor reached.

Rare Box
Cost: 9 scrap. Must have reached floor 4. Random rare item from floors up to floor 8, scaling up to your current maximum floor reached (capped at floor 8).

Epic Box
Cost: 18 scrap. Must have reached floor 12. Random epic item from floors up to your current maximum floor, providing the best possible epic items for your progression level.

Box Scaling System

All boxes provide items that scale based on your highest floor reached. The higher your maximum floor, the better items you can receive. Each box tier has maximum floor caps: Common boxes give items from floors before floor 4, Rare boxes from floors up to floor 8, and Epic boxes from all floors up to your current maximum. Boxes always provide the best possible items for their rarity tier at your current progression.
