Description
The essence system provides temporary combat and experience bonuses through collectible essences that randomly spawn when defeating monsters.
Spawn Mechanics
Killing any monster has a 0.6% base chance to spawn an essence around the corpse. Essences linger on the ground for 30 seconds - walk over one to absorb it. Essence Hunter cards and the Essence Magnet equipment stat raise this chance substantially, and they stack.
Essence Types
Power Essence
Grants increased damage for 2 minutes (about +35% at the standard tier).
Experience Essence
Grants increased experience gain for 2 minutes (about +35% at the standard tier).
Race Essence
Spawns a monster when collected. Each kill spawns another, chaining for a short window (12-20 seconds depending on tier) - the more you kill, the more experience and loot you gain.
Trial Essence
Spawns 5 monsters when collected. Clear them and another Trial Essence appears nearby, repeating up to 3 times. Finishing all 3 trials pays a guaranteed reward of gold, with a tier-scaled chance at a Basic stat stone.
Fortune Essence
A rare, separate drop with its own 0.25% chance on every monster you kill - roughly one in four hundred kills. Unlike the four essences above it is personal: only the player who landed the kill can pick it up, and it stays on the ground for anyone else.
Fortune pays out instantly instead of granting a buff. You receive experience worth about twenty kills of the monster that dropped it, plus tower coins based on how deep the floor is (1 on the lowest floors up to 7 on the deepest). Elite, legendary and cursed monsters pay extra coins.
Bosses and dungeon monsters do not drop Fortune Essences.
Essence Tiers
Every essence rolls a tier when it drops, scaling how strong it is. The tier is biased by how deep the floor is and by the rarity of the monster that dropped it - elite, legendary and cursed monsters lean toward higher tiers.
Lesser
A weaker essence (around 25% potency on Power/Experience).
Greater
The standard essence (around 35% potency).
Pure
A powerful essence (around 50% potency) that also lasts 25% longer. Higher tiers display a brighter aura and a +/++ tag on the floating text.
Fortune Essences do not roll a tier - their payout is fixed by the monster and the floor.
